About Lock-In for Love

Lock-In for Love: Home Edition is an online fundraising campaign where you can register (for free) and fundraise online through your personal fundraising page (just like Paws for a Cause or Treat Week!). The event will finish with a virtual event day on June 13th where participants and their donors can join the BC SPCA online and celebrate their fundraising success.

Lock-In for Love: Home Edition officially starts Wednesday, May 13, 2020, and participants will fundraise through Saturday, June 13, 2020. Come June 13, you and your donors are invited to join the BC SPCA virtually for a day of celebration, to say thank you, and to show the amazing power of animals-lovers. More details on June 13th activities to come!

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BC SPCA has had to close our branches to the public (except for adoption and surrender appointments) to protect the safety of our staff, volunteers, and animals. We have also made the very difficult decision to cancel all our physical events through September, including our on-site Lock-In for Loves, Paws for a Cause, pub nights, garage sales, galas and more. This will have a huge impact as the BC SPCA relies heavily on public donations to be able to care for vulnerable animals.

Thankfully the BC SPCA has been declared an essential service during this time of crisis. Every dollar raised during Lock-In for Love: Home Edition will help to ensure we are able to continue to care for and protect vulnerable animals when it’s needed the most.

 

We understand this is an uncertain time and not everyone is in a position to give. We decided to launch this campaign after seeing great results in our recent Calendar Contest fundraiser where supporters ask their friends and family to help them reach their goal. In fact, fundraisers raised 75% more than last year and in half the time! You’ll be surprised how many people still want to help the animals.

If you know some of your friends and family aren’t in a position to give, why not ask them to share your page instead, and help you spread the message!

The day of celebration! Collect your donations from your friends and family by June 13th, and then join us (your donors are welcome too!) virtually as we thank you for all your hard work, and celebrate the power of animal lovers! All the fun will be hosted on the BC SPCA Facebook page!

Fundraising

To say thank you for your amazing efforts, we’ve got a little something special to celebrate when you reach the following milestones.

• When you raise $500 you will be emailed a $50 BC SPCA gift card for use in our online store! You can expect to receive your email within 7 days of reaching this amazing milestone.

• Go a step further and raise $1,000 and we’ll send you a custom puzzle featuring your pet or favourite animal! We will be in contact after June 13th to work with you to pick the perfect picture.

Please note: if you are fundraising as a team each individual will need to raise $500 or $1,000 to be eligible. If only one person on the team reaches one of the above milestones they would be the only team member to receive the gift. Team gifts do not count towards fundraising milestones.

Take your fundraising to the next level!

1) Make a plan and mark your calendar
Lock-In for Love: Home Edition kicks off Wednesday, May 13 and goes through Saturday, June 13, 2020. The earlier you start the more $$ you are likely to raise! Then mark June 13 in your calendar and join us for a day of virtual celebration – don’t forget to invite your donors too!

2) Set your goal and make the first donation
During registration you’ll be asked to set a fundraising goal, set an ambitious goal to show your friends and family that you are serious about saving animals’ lives. Plus, when you reach $500 and $1,000 we have a special thank you planned!

Next, set an example and inspire others by making the first donation. When your friends and family see this they will be extra motivated to help you reach your goal.

3) Customize your Personal Fundraising Page
This is your chance to tell everyone how much you love animals and explain why you have chosen to fundraise for the BC SPCA. You may want to share a personal story of an animal who has touched your life. Then, upload photos of some of your favourite animals, after all, who can say no to a furry face?

4) Tell everyone you’re fundraising and why
Don’t be afraid to ask. Giving makes people feel great, even during this challenging time, people still want to be there for the animals. Don’t forget, you are asking on behalf of vulnerable animals that desperately need us.
Share your fundraising via email, Facebook, text, whatever your preferred method of communication is during social distancing.

To make it easy we have template emails ready for you to update and send! From your Personal Fundraising Centre you can send emails to friends and co-workers letting them know you are raising funds for the animals and asking them to visit your page and donate.

5) Don’t be afraid to keep asking
We all need a reminder now and then. Don’t be afraid to keep reminding others about your mission to help vulnerable animals.

6) Share your success with everyone and express your thanks!
Don’t forget to send a special thank you to all your donors. Your Personal Fundraising Centre features a list of everyone who donated online and a tool for sending thank you emails.

Yes, the more the merrier! When you register as a team, you will create both a Lock-In for Love Team Fundraising Page, as well as an Individual Fundraising Page. You can use the Team Page to track team fundraising and to ask others to join you. If you’ve already registered as an individual and would now like to start a team email us at lockin@spca.bc.ca and we’ll help you out!

Changes on your “Amount Raised Online” total and team total should be updated within 24 hours.

Your Personal Fundraising Centre is your fundraising online headquarters and contains all the tools you need to connect with potential donors. Here you can check the donations you’ve received, track your progress, and email your friends and family. Personalize your page with stories, pictures, and videos to let your friends know why it means so much for them to give generously to the animals.

 

Yes, we welcome animal lovers of all ages to participate in Lock-In for Love!

It can take up to 24 hours to receive a confirmation email. If you have not received a confirmation within 24 hours, remember to check your ‘junk’ folder just in case and then contact us at lockin@spca.bc.ca (or phone us at 1.844.599.2253). We will be happy to check the status for you.

 

Submitting Donations

By submitting your funds as soon as possible, your dollars can go to work immediately to help animals in your community! The aim is to collect all donations by June 13 so we can celebrate the total together. However, your personal page will remain up and running and able to accept donations in the months following your event.

All donations of $10 or more are eligible to receive a tax receipt. If your donors make a donation online they will automatically receive an electronic tax receipt by email.

While giving online is the fastest and easiest way for you and your donors to get funds to the animals, you may also mail funds to BC SPCA Lock-In for Love 1245 E 7th Ave, Vancouver BC, V5T 1R1. Please include complete name, address and phone details for each donor so that a receipt can be issued. Tax receipts will be emailed or mailed directly to donors. Please be sure to provide all contact details when submitting your donation as this is required by the Canada Revenue Agency before we can issue a receipt. Processing times for offline donations will vary, but if you’d like to follow up send an email to lockin@spca.bc.ca.

No, based on Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, we are only able to issue tax receipts to donors. Your supporters will receive a tax receipt for their donations (of $10 or more), and you will receive a tax receipt for your personal donations.
