Supporting Areas of Greatest Need
Held by BC SPCA
At 10-weeks-old, puppy Smokey has been enduring pain and suffering from a terrible skin condition.
Smokey's irresponsible breeder was unprepared to care for newborn puppies and provide them with everything they needed. The mum and her pups were living outside and lacked adequate nutrition to stay healthy and strong. When Smokey developed what's known as "puppy strangles" (or juvenile cellulitis) he wasn't given the specialized care he needed. His body was literally attacking itself, yet the resilient puppy has refused to let it grasp him. His gentle, playful spirit won't be dimmed.
They realized that they needed help and brought him to the BC SCPA (and to you, our loving community) for the care he desperately needs.
The skin on poor Smokey's face is raw and painful, and his innocent eyes are uncomfortably dry with every blink. He'll need to stay on pain control, steroids, antibiotics and regular eye drops while his condition improves.
Will you stay by his side as he slowly heals?
Despite his rough start to life, Smokey's sweet nature makes him an exceptionally well-behaved puppy. He's learning how to play gently with humans and is having the time of his life with his stuffed animals and doggy friends. He sleeps often to give his healing body the rest it needs, but when he's not snoozing you'll find him eager to learn a new command or snuggle up with a warm body next to him.
With this community's care and kindness, he'll be able to heal, grow and one day be loved by his own special person.
To get there, Smokey needs all the love and compassion you can spare him. Whatever you choose to donate today, it means the world to him and to us.
In addition to supporting Smokey through his recovery, your kind-hearted donation funds rescue, shelter, medical care and more, bringing joy to those animals who need it most.
