In Loving Memory of Sadie My Wild Child

In January 2017, Sadie came into the care of the Abbotsford BC SPCA. She had been starved and abused - broken in body and spirit. She was terrified of everything: people, sounds, unsure if it was ok for her to eat. But then she met Oscar, my resident dog, and something in her shifted. I brought her home to foster her and never looked back.

Everything was new to her - having a dog friend, being loved by a human, sleeping on a soft bed, curling up on a couch, walking on a leash. Slowly, patiently, Sadie began to trust. She bloomed into the strong-willed, wild, beautiful soul we all came to know and love.

Sadie was my wild childfearless, spirited, always ready for the next adventure. We could all learn from Sadie - she didn't take life too seriously and was always happy! But when it came time to settle down, no one cuddled better. She loved fiercely and lived loudly. She made her presence known with her signature scream-bark that never failed to make us laugh (or jump). She kept us on our toes and filled our days with joy.

During the pandemic, Sadie and Oscar became local video conference celebrities. Their noisy interruptions on video calls earned them the nickname "The Noisy Boys." Sadie adored Oscar - he was her hero. She followed him everywhere, copied his every move - even lifting her leg to pee, just like her big brother. She wanted nothing more than to be like him, and in doing so, she became unforgettable in her own right.

In September 2024, our world shattered when Sadie was diagnosed with lymphoma. I was devastated. From that moment on, I cherished every second we had left together. She fought bravely for two months, and I stayed by her side through it all. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing Ive ever done. My heart still aches. Im crying as I write this.

This year, Im raising funds for Lock-In for Love in honour of my girl. If youve ever loved and lost a pet, you know the kind of heartbreak that never fully heals. The silence they leave behind is deafeningbut so is the love they gave while they were here.

Sadie, my wild child, you were everything. This ones for you.
